AVODAH engages young people in direct work on the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. This work partners Corps members with service providers and residents in low income communities and equips our Corps members and alumni to emerge as lifelong agents for social change, whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values.

New Orleans has been named as a host city of the JCC Maccabi Artsfest for 2009. The festival will be held August 2-7, 2009. Potential teen participants should contact their local JCC. Individuals living in or planning to visit the New Orleans area during the ArtsFest who are interested in volunteering should contact the New Orleans JCC ArtsFest Volunteer Office at VolunteerArtsFest@nojcc.org

The festival is geared towards teens in junior and senior high school, and “is designed to inspire Jewish teens through a dynamic combination of workshop, performance, exhibition, recognition of excellence, community service, social activities, and fun. Teens develop their individuality through the medium of artistic expression while strengthening their bonds to their Jewish heritage, community and Israel.”

Activities include visual art, drama, music, photography, dance and poetry.
