This site is hosted by AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, which launched its New Orleans program in the fall of 2008. AVODAH engages young people in direct work on the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. This work partners Corps members with service providers and residents in low income communities and equips our Corps members and alumni to emerge as lifelong agents for social change, whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values.

Hillel Students Continue Alternative Spring Break Trips to New Orleans

Since Katrina, New Olreans has been a popular destination for alternative Spring Break trips for college students looking to dedicate their time and energy to a worthy cause. Many of these groups are organized by campus Hillel groups, hosting students inspired by Tikkun Olam, the Jewish value of repairing the world.

The Times-Picauyne this week featured a story on students volunteering through Rebuilding Together New Orleans to spend their Spring Breaks helping to repair New Orleans from the damage caused by Katrina. Here is a video the newspaper produced for its online edition, www.nola.com:
