Highlighting the Jewish Community's Involvement in Rebuilding New Orleans

This site is hosted by AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, which launched its New Orleans program in the fall of 2008. AVODAH engages young people in direct work on the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. This work partners Corps members with service providers and residents in low income communities and equips our Corps members and alumni to emerge as lifelong agents for social change, whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values.

Since the death penalty was reinstated, 123 U.S. citizens have been recognized as innocent and exonerated from death row. Resurrection after Exoneration is a New Orleans non-profit created by these innocent men to provide services and support to exonerees and the formerly incarcerated when returning from prison.

On Monday March 30th at 7:00 p.m., Resurrection After Exoneration is mounting a production of “Voices of Innocence”, a stage performance by four exonerees, John Thompson, Gregory Bright, Dan Bright and Ryan Matthews, who collectively spent 54 years in prison, 33 of these years on death row. This production gives voice to each of these men’s struggle to survive wrongful conviction, long prison sentences and, ultimately, exoneration and return to a changed, often-unwelcoming world. This performance will be held on Monday March 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Tulane University’s Lanvin Bernick Center in the Kendall Cram Lecture Hall.

The performance is open to the public and will be followed by a reception. For further information, Resurrection After Exoneration can be reached at 504-943-1902 or online at www.r-a-e.org
