I had similar feelings about the work that I am doing, and was doing last year. Very little direct service, and sometimes it was hard to see the forest through the trees.

It sounds to me like you have the right attitude though about the work that you are doing. Like you said, it is always important to step back from the details to take a look at the overall picture. Then it becomes much easier to see the work as one link in the chain.
